How To Enjoy Your Holiday Knowing Your Home Is Secure

Going on holiday is exciting and the build-up can be a lot of fun! However, many people get anxious as their trip approaches as they worry their home may not be safe and secure while they are away.

Here we look at the best ways to make sure your home is as protected and safe as possible so you can enjoy every second of your getaway and leave your worries behind.

Friends, Neighbours and Neighbourhood Watch

If you have friends or family local, or a neighbour that you completely trust, then it is a good idea to give them a key to your home and ask them to stop by each morning and night, closing / opening curtains and removing post. This will stop the house looking empty. You could also join your local neighbourhood watch group. These are there to provide the community with more eyes and less crime. If you do not have a scheme in your neighbourhood then why not see if anyone is interested in helping to create one?

Have The Latest Windows and Doors Fitted

Burglars will target homes with older and less effective windows and doors as these are obviously easier to break into. If your windows and doors are ageing and not quite as secure as they once were then it is a good idea to invest in some new ones. Modern fittings have more advanced locking mechanisms and therefore provide ultimate security. The money spent on these will secure your home and enhance the look so the benefits far outweigh the cost.

Have An Alarm System Installed

An alarm system is a great way to enhance the security of your home. Make sure you get a British Standard approved system and have it fitted by a specialist. It may seem like an expensive thing to fork out for but weigh it up against the money and stress involved in being burgled and there is no competition. Make sure you have your system checked annually.

Don’t Tell Everyone You Are Leaving

This may sound like an obvious one, but don’t go shouting from the rooftops that your home is going to be empty. It is very tempting to tell everybody about your exciting trip but advertising an empty home on social media or broadcasting it on the tube could cause unwanted attention. Try to keep it between you and close friends and family were possible.
